principles & values
by Carrie L. DeJesus, Esquire
1. Kindness.
How we treat each other is important. While encounters with the law can be stressful, I promise to do my best to lead with kindness.
2. Wellbeing matters.
Lawyers have some of the highest rates of depression, anxiety, stress-related illness, addiction and suicide. It's a tough profession. In order to be able to continue this work, my self-care is a priority. I care wholeheartedly for my clients and the work that I do, but I cannot be available 24/7. I promise to always answer emails and voicemails. Please grant me reasonable time to respond to correspondence and understand that I have limited work hours and take time off.
3. Listen.
I will be a deep listener and fully present in all forms of communication.
4. Tell the truth.
I will tell the truth, always. Even if it's hard. And I will tell the truth with compassion.
5. Disrupt.
This law firm is an experiment in disruption. It is not business as usual. I am not a typical lawyer. I value compassionate communication and heart-centered relationships with my clients. I believe that interactions with the law can be an opportunity for healing. I believe in operating from a space of love rather than fear. All of this is poured into my work with clients and my work to shift the practice of law.
6. Value.
I have been a lawyer for over twelve years. I spent three years and tens of thousands of dollars on my legal education. I spend hundreds more every year on continuing education courses, seminars and trainings. I read books, journals and articles about the law every week. I follow legal trends and court decisions daily. My knowledge and my time are valuable. My rates are reasonable and fair but also reflect the time I have spent honing my skills and the time I put into caring for my clients and their legal needs.
